Morelli Chertkow is committed to hiring articling students and developing them as new lawyers. We generally hire one student each year. Our goal is to keep students on as Associates. Therefore, while academic standing is a factor that we consider, it is not the most important. We are looking for well-rounded, energetic and compatible people who appreciate the lifestyle that Kamloops has to offer and have a desire to contribute to the community.
At Morelli Chertkow articling students are provided a broad range of experience having practical application and are not tied to their desk with research. Students will meet with clients and witnesses, attend court and participate in all aspects of cases from start to finish. Similarly with solicitors work, students will meet with clients then participate in producing the end product on corporate, commercial and estate matters. Our students will obtain practical experience and training in Ethics, Practice Management and Lawyering Skills and 85% of the Practice Areas as outlined here: Law Society’s Articling Skills and Practice Checklist.
The successful applicant will be paid a salary commensurate with other firms of similar size in Kamloops plus Group Insurance (Life, A&SI, LTD, Health, Dental, EAP) and paid sick leave. The Firm will pay for the Articling and Professional Legal Training Course fees and salary while attending PLTC (commencing in May).
